Worried

I'm not posting this in the main forum because I'd like people to comment only if they're interested (or bored) enough to come to my personal journal. It really freaks me out that some many of the women in the crochet communities that I follow are majorly overweight! Some are just carrying a few extra 10-15 lbs (like me), but the vast majority seem to be health-affectingly obese. I don't want to turn into that...this phenom particularly scares me because in my mad Xmas-present making and in my post bar exam aimlessness, I was content to sit on my ass for hours daily.

My Xmas Table

Okay, my camera sucks and sapped the color out. But here's what I've got thus far:

Quickest shipping ever!

My Joann.com order, 18 skeins of yummy yarn arrived in less than a week--it actually shipped within 2 days! That's soooo much better than the 2 wks it took last time. Now I should have enough yarn to make all my Xmas presents...that or another throw blankie.

More yarn!

I succumbed to yet another Joann.com free shipping offer. I bought $30 worth of yarn--enough to make the shawl I'm making for an Xmas present and another throw blankie. Now I have to really get cracking.

Xmas Lapghan Begun!

Here's my first granny square! I'm hoping to make an entire afghan (or laphan as I will likely tire before I finish anything big). Using an L hook, I used this pattern.

kitty

Okay, jeremy thinks it looks like a bear hat as well, but I swear I tried to make the ears pointy. Because the picture is bad, the hat is black with white ears.

I hate waiting

Today my order from frankfort ave needlework came. Ordered Sunday on ebay, it came a mere 4 days later. Comparedly, I am still waiting for the Joann.com order that was placed a week and a half ago. It took 3-4 days just to show up in their system and has been in transit for the past 3 days. In the meantime I've been to Walmart where I could have bought what I needed for the same price or less. To be fair, I got free shipping and a discount on cotton yarn from Joann's which is what makes the waiting worth it. I did not, however, get a sale on the stitch markers, which I could have picked up anywhere and need so badly NOW.

bear hat

Yay! I get to be a stuffed aminal for Halloween...well, I get to wear a bear hat with crooked ears. But it's not a bad first effort and given time I may try again...

helmet hats are clearly not for me...

but here's my first go at making one:

I butchered this pattern by using a much smaller hook (K instead of P) and only one strand of worsted weight yarn instead of two. Somehow I managed to improvise well enough to get the general shape down, but it's definitely not a dead-of-winter hat. What do you think?

Hats from Monday, Oct 18th

Today I became inspired to crochet my first hat in the round. I had grown quite fond of seaming up backs for both knit and crochet, but I decided to venture into unknown territory.

This is the "first" completed effort.
I started off with a pattern and then got lost, so it wound up being rather cylindrical...
...and a little snug...

But my second try, this time following the pattern almost the entire way (i cut off the brim and added a round of dc and sc), was much more successful...

Tuesday's Hat, Oct 19th

Yes, that's my shower curtain (Winnie the Pooh!)...I was having trouble finding the proper lighting on this dark and dreary day here in Chicagoland.

What I've made

I might as well post what I've made, so anyone that happens by has something to look at. X-posted to crochet.

Yesterday, I finished a couple of simple hat and scarf sets, using both knit and crochet.

All crochet, using dc. I got the idea from a pattern someone posted awhile ago.

Simple stockinette with crochet daisies.

Hat is mostly stockinette with a few rows of garter at the top and bottom; alternating knit and purl ribbing for the scarf, with a little sc along the edges
